One of the great features Gmail offers is the ability to import email and contacts from a prior webmail provider. This option is available to users both during and after the onboarding process.In this article, we would like to show you how easily you can import email and contacts into your Google account.

1. Open your Gmail Account

We’ll start this tutorial at your Gmail Inbox. On your left, we have all your folders which in Gmail are called Labels.

To begin your emails migration you need to click on the gear icon on the top right corner and select the “Settings” option from the drop-down menu.

Once you are inside the settings page you need to select the “Accounts and Import” tab.

4. Import Mail and Contacts

Inside the “Accounts and Import” tab, you go to the second option and select “Import mail and contacts”.This will allow you to import from Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, Gmail and the more than 200 webmail providers ShuttleCloud supports.

5. Sign into Your Other Email Account

To start the migration process, select the email account you want to import into Gmail. In this video, we are using a test account from Outlook.A) Here you type-in your email address which is done to confirm that ShuttleCloud supports your provider.B) Press continue to start the process.

At the next pop-up you’ll select continue and follow the instructions in the pop-up window.

In this example, at the Outlook log-in page, we’ll be asked forA) Our email address in the first step.B) And then for our password.ShuttleCloud utilizes OAuth & SSL to ensure the security of the import process.

The next window will confirm that our authentication has been successful.

8. Options and Starting the Import

A) In the next pop-up you’ll be selecting whether to import:

  • Contacts
  • Email
  • or be provided email forwarding for the next 30 days.

The import time will depend on the number of emails in your previous account.At this point, you can go back to your Gmail inbox and keep working as usual because all imported messages will be stored in a new Gmail Folder.You can even log-out and close your browser, as all importing occurs in the background.

To check the status of your import, look under settings in the “Account and imports” tab.

10. Import complete!

A) You will receive a message in your inbox, notifying you that your import has completed.B) You will be able to locate the folder with your previous account’s messages on the left hand-side of your inbox.

After clicking on the folder, you’ll find all your email from your previous email provider.
